Introduction
The law and practice relating to the registration of UK trademarks is covered by the Trade Marks Act 1994, as amended (305Kb). This is administered in accordance with the Trade Marks Rules 2008 (383Kb) which came into force on 1 October 2008. Please note that these rules revoke and replace the Trade Mark Rules 2000. The law relating to trade marks may also be affected by Statutory Instruments. These are secondary legislation passed by parliament.
