We are a small firm of patent and trademark attorneys – this currently means that Keith is a Chartered Patent Attorney (i.e. a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys) and a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney (i.e. a member of the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys). Keith is also a European Patent Attorney and therefore qualified to act for clients before the European Patent Office. Keith is assisted by Tim Fray, who is an Associate Member of CIPA, and supported by Helen Jones, who is a Paralegal Member of CIPA, and Kate Baker-Loven, who is training in trademarks administration.
The firm is regulated by the IP Regulation Board https://ipreg.org.uk/, which sets standards of qualification and conduct.
We act for a wide range of small companies and individuals and work with a range of foreign patent and trademark attorneys, who send us work where their clients want to file patent applications in the UK or the EPO, or register trademarks or designs. When our clients seek foreign protection for their inventions, trademarks of designs, we may instruct the appropriate foreign attorneys to handle the work on our behalf.
Since patents generally need to be renewed annually after they are granted, registered designs every 5 years, and trademarks every 10 years, part of our job is to monitor the renewal dates and seek instructions from clients in advance of the due dates, since failure to renew in time can involve penalty fees or even loss of rights.
