We are slowly and carefully bashing the nettle stems so that we can extract the strong and flexible outside of the nettle to then dry and later begin to make our
string from this.
Here is the end result (before drying).
Chris had ingeniously come up with an alternative use for the nettle stems, he’d come up with a hair loss replacement system. Simply apply to any balding areas to
achieve that luxurious full head of hair look, looks good don’t you think? We soon finished this part of the workshop and we were then introduced to another
technique used in flint knapping, pressure flaking.
This is a picture of our tool kit, the hammer stone to remove and shape the flint, the leather to hold the flint against whilst pressure flaking and the antler to apply
pressure to areas of the flake you want to shape and work on. Also in the picture is a little leaf shaped arrow head I was working on. We were all set the challenge of
making one after we’d been given a lesson on pressure flaking, which as we learnt offered a much finer and precise way to work the flint.
